First, here's a little background on me. I own a CrossFit affiliate and I teach 95% of all of our classes. Before buying this pair, I went through 2 pairs of inov-8's over some 2000 classes taught. They simply hold up better than any other shoe I have worn at our gym and the fit is great. That being said, I am underwhelmed with my new Bare-XF. My main issue is the center velcro strap almost never stays put. Although the idea is nice and you can certainly wrap this shoe around your foot, it doesn't stay that way through even the lightest of workouts or training sessions. Also, it would be great to have a little more support at the top of the toe box to help with movements like double unders and burpees. While the high percentage of rubber/plastic is nice for rope climbing, I just have a hard time being positive about a shoe that cannot meet the most basic need: to stay put.

Never worn shoes for running too binding and uncomfortable, wanted to run off trail where there are catus and have been looking for a barefoot design to allow me to be protected. I have tried so many other styles for barefoot running and they have all failed for being too stiff on my foot not allowing unrestricted movement for running and too much pressure from the stiff form on the top of my foot and ankle.. I chose this design for the grove in the upper sole to allow for front foot running. Works perfectly for comfortable flexible front foot running . Very lite, non restrictive and very comfortable on my foot no pressure points as the other styles, could wear with or without socks. I got the 9.5 M have an adverage width foot fits really well in the width, I do have a little more room above the big toe (+ or - 1/2 inch of space) of the shoe then I would normally find in purchaseing 9.5 M guess it's because this design has a more pointed end type design, Can't say now if that extra space will bother me or not running longer distances as the width fits like a soft glove I don't see the shoe slipping during movement on a short distance trying them out. I hate anything that will cause a pressure point on my foot, so the extra space at the toe gives my toes freedom and most likely be a good thing for me. So 4 starts if the space is an issue for anyone else. I love them the instant I put them on feeling the difference from all the other styles I have tried. All I needed was the sole protection without losing the barefoot freedom and these do just that..

I bought these shoes after destroying 3 straight pairs of New Balance on the rope. I've always loved New Balance because they were one of the only manufacturers to offer wide widths. Nike, Adidas, Reebok, etc. never fit my foot as it was too wide. However, they could not hold up to the various moves involved in Crossfit, especially rope climbs. These shoes however have been superb.Pros:-Comfortable: They are VERY comfortable. It's like wearing functional slippers.-WIDE: This is important for me and I am sure for others.-Durable: They have survived countless rope climbs, falls off boxes, road runs and lifts. 6 Months now and almost look new.Cons:-Middle Velcro Strap: I've read on a few other reviews that others have had this problem. The middle Velcro strap comes undone sometimes. For me it's ONLY on double unders, probably the repeated landings. I haven't had the strap come undone any other time. The shoe doesn't move or slip however as the other two straps remain firmly in place.I would 100% recommend this shoe to anyone looking for an all purpose Crossfit shoe. I personally may try the XF-210 (basically a laces version) if these ever break down but then I have to deal with laces getting in the way.Another Note: Inov-8 has a warranty on the shoes so that if they get worn climbing a rope and they have "rope guard" in the first 6 months they replace them. VERY solid company.
