I'm a 57 yr old rookie runner. I started running in July 2013 and average 11-12 minutes a mile on asphalt. I'm 6'1" and weigh 205 so I knew I needed shoes with support and padding. These shoes were delivered last night and I took them on a break-in run this morning. I discovered that no break-in was required. I went 6 miles and felt like I was running on air. No foot pain, no ankle or knee pain... My legs and feet feel great. I can't speak for anyone else, but this shoe was made for me.

The shoes performed very well for a marathion I ran, good shoes, no major pain or discomfort in normal running.

I've had a pair of the Gel Kayano 19s for the past three months and love them. I trained for and ran a half marathon with these and they were great. I use these mostly for running just my long runs too so they don't get too many non-running miles. I went to the store to try out the GK20s since I have a double half-marathon (back to back days) coming up. I thought I'd just swap out shoes each day (wear one on day 1, the other pair on day 2).I tried on the GK20s and first thing: they're lighter. That's always good. They also didn't really feel as stiff as the GK19s had when I first bought them. When I bought the GK19s, I had to casually wear them for a week before I really felt like I could run in them. My first run was then only 2 or 3 miles and they were still stiff. But the GK20s - they felt "broken in" from the start. Hmmmm...I mentioned it to the sales person and he said that the GK20's are one ounce lighter. I'm suspicious of that since these were already a very light shoe. Where did the one ounce come from? He said they are using a new foam. Hmmmm... Makes me nervous.So I did a squeeze test - where you pinch/squeeze the foam of the shoe right at the end of the arch. That's a good test for when shoes are worn/wearing out - compare what it was when you bought it to what it is after 200+ miles and you'll see that the foam wears down. I'm talking on the inside of the shoe right about where the last lace is - pinch the foam on a new shoe vs. an old shoe and you'll see a big difference.Guess what? The GK19s were super stiff - even after 3 months of probably 100+ miles. The GK20s though? They were much spongier in the pinch. That means that there's (a) less support, and (b) I don't have any confidence that they will last as long. I ended up passing on the GK20s. Guess I have to find a new shoe brand now - they took out some of the support *and* raised the price by $20+. No thanks.
