Product Description
New from Montrail for 2009, the Mountain Masochist is specifically designed for the athlete who wants exceptional fit and breathability in a lightweight, performance trail shoe. The light, breathable and water shedding mesh upper includes a gusseted tongue to keep dirt out and help feet stay cool. A reinforced toe cap protects the front of the shoe. The Gryptonite outsole for great traction and exceptional durability. Montrail's exclusive Trail Shield runs the length of the foot bed for underfoot protection from rocks and other trail debris. Triple density "Vapor Response" EVA midsole provides a responsive ride with mid-foot support to minimize pronation. The lacing system incorporates webbing and straps that wrap around the shoe to provide exceptional fit and comfort for the long run. Fit Notes: Snug midfoot and open toe box. Weight: 10.8 oz (Men's 9).

If you are looking for a nice stiff trail shoe that can take a beating on most unprepared trails, I would recommend the Mt Masochist. Rock plate gives plenty of foot protection on rocks and roots, especially in the later stages of ultra distances. Shoe performs well on muddy, wet conditions and drains quickly. If you are used to a soft flexible road shoe, expect to take a little extra time breaking these in. Happy Trail Running!

I'm on my second pair of Masochists and while they are fine for everyday trail running, I was just reminded why I don't like them for ultra distance runs. If you are looking for a shoe with good support, these don't hack it for the long haul. Otherwise, they drain exceptionally well, are light (but not minimalist by any means), and the soles seem to last a while. I may seriously see about an orthotic to add a bit of support, as these are otherwise a bargin-priced winner of a shoe. But for a shoe being advertised as offering stability for overpronators...meh...not so much.

I don't care if you spend $250.00 you will not find a better pair of trail shoes out there. These are lightweight, extremely comfortable, and you can run across roots, sharp rocks, or anything else all day and not feel a thing. Simply perfect!
