Good, except for ventilation

Good fit, good construction, excellent support in a training shoe, but has no ventilation at all. It's OK for an hour or 2 in the gym, but probably not for longer wear.

Great for Long Trail Runs

I received the 319s for Christmas and have only ran on single track trails (hard packed dirt; mud; rocks). I have been running in size 13 Saucony Xodus Progrids; love them but they are a little tight for my foot but have a great feel for technical trails. The main reason for purchasing the 319s was that I have a wide foot and really need a 13.5 trail shoe. My road trainers are New Balance 993s, size 13 2E width and they fit perfect. The 319s do not come in 13.5 but the size 13 is roomier in the toe box which makes them perfect for trail runs exceeding 15 miles. The tread/lugs are aggressive and do take up a bit of mud which can weight the shoe down. My 1st run was a 10 mile trail run and they felt great no break-in required. Great support and cushion without losing too much feel for the trail. Really bought these for 50K and above trail races if I need speed and a more responsive trail feel I will wear my Saucony Xodus Progrids with Vibram soles; but for shorter races. The laces are very thin for quick lacing..the only problem is that even with double knotting they tend to loosen up; but this may because they are new and need a bit more dirt and spit on them to keep them tight. Purchased at RunningWarehouse for $59. Use the coupon code FB15D to save another 15%. [...]. Well worth a shot if you are looking for a good trail shoe for longer distance or if you are transitioning from road to trail. Super comfy and roomy

Don't think these are available anymore, so the price above should be enough to try them. I bought them for a 3 week trip to South America and spent long days on city streets and rural trails/rocky areas and they were great. Big toe box for comfortable fit, but can be snugged up easily with the laces.....which I must say is one of the best lacing shoes I've ever owned - easy zippy pull and they are locked in.One downside - breathability. They started to get a little funky after just a couple months, so ventilate well when not wearing to keep them fresh.

Passable racing flat

I only completed one run in them being that they run a bit small for size. They ended up cutting into my feet and drawing blood. I'm usually a 10.5 but would have to go up to an 11 in these.That aside I still got about four miles on them before i sold them to a friend after that first run. They are a quality racing flat for the cost i paid for them. They have enough cushion to absorb some of the impact, but leave you with enough ground feel to keep it a responsive, quick experience.That being said, they're quality for the price i got them at, not their MSRP. I think Skechers' go run line is more in line with a quality purchase. I wouldn't be surprised if these are discontinued soon. I don't think they hit a market that skeches can make much impact in at their established price.

Perfect Long Distance Shoe!!

I have owned several brands of running shoes and I have been stuck with Asics for a long time. I was a heel striker and I evolved to the mid-foot strike seen on Kenyan marathon runners. I don't want to tell you a big story here but, when I saw these shoes, they looked like what I wanted. I don't believe in this minimalistic hype where people tend to run with almost no protection. Do respect their ways though. I believe that our feet are not made for pavement and I was searching for a cushioned and flexible shoe that can mimic the motion of my feet. I gave the Excels a shot one size larger (I have a bunion and these tend to be narrow) and bingo!!! I am a pronator but, with the running technique I use, I don't need any support gadgets. I took them out of the box for a 12KM run and I felt that I was running on nano-pillows (my pace was a bit faster too). I saw in another review that they said that the outsoles are not durable. If you are a heel striker and tend to push yourself forward, they won't last but, I barely touch the ground, using the force of gravity to keep me going forward. After that run, there was 0% of wear in the outsole! The heel zone was like new but just dirty. For mid-slightly forefoot runners, this is a great choice and, they are not as expensive as others. I have the more expensive Cirrus 33 and the Excels beat them by far. The Cirrus are over-cushioned and heavy (too much soft cushion slows you). The Excels have a plastic insert that they call Propulsion Trusstic. This device makes the shoe a bit stiffer and it does mirror the foot better. These are simple, with just the right cushioning and flexibility, long lasting for those with a good gait cycle and definitely good looking! Anyone who buys these, won't be disappointed, especially those who know how a long distance runner stride to glory

Great shoe

Chose this shoe as a transition to a more minimalist shoe. I've been using Asics for years and these fit better than expected. The shoe feels very light and the lower heel drop is noticeable, but not drastically different from standard running shoes. I'd recommend these for anyone looking to move away from a heel striking style of running.

Asics Excel33 - Pretty much what I expected

This is a good overall running shoe. The cushioning in the forefoot is nice, not too much, not too little. Maybe just a bit spongy, but the shoe is pretty well balanced, meaning that the cushioning in the midfoot and the heel make the shoe feel as if your foot is much flatter than the 10mm heel to toe drop would suggest. That's good, b/c it helps to facilitate mid foot strikers being able to maintain the form to which they've become accustomed without a big cushy platform heel getting in the way. In other words, this shoe has a 10mm heel drop, but when you're wearing it, it feels like your foot is more flat than that. The shoe has some road feel to it, but not a whole lot. The heel was slipping a bit at first but that stopped after the lacing was adjusted. I can't tell if that trussic system actually does any good or not, so I guess I don't have much of an opinon on that particular "technology". I think the shoe is pretty light and comfortable, the lacing system needed some personal adjustments though. I had to parallel lace the shoes b/c the laces were digging into the top of my foot. (I have a high arch and this is a fairly common occurence for me in many different types/brands of running shoes over the years. After I got the laced adjusted the heel slippage wasn't much of an issue either. The shoe (sole and upper) has worn pretty well for me over the past month or so, not a ton of miles on it, but I'm still recovering from a fairly signficant calf strain when I went too quickly into training with the 4mm drop "minimal" Kinvara 3 - my fault. Needed to take it much slower getting into those shoes, and I rushed it, and I am paying the price now. So having this shoe still allows me to work on a more natural running form without the risk of overdoing it (i.e., injury) in a "minimal" trainer like the Kinvara. So overall I'm pretty happy with the shoe and would recommend them for training runs of 10 -12 and for use during various types of cross training workouts b/c the shoes feel pretty stable on your feet. As an afterthought, if it's important to you, they're one of the best looking trainers that's i've ever owned.

Helly Hansen Men's Pace Trail HTXP Trail Running Shoe

A little more than 6 months ago, I purchased a pair of Helly Hansen Men's Pace Trail HTXP Trail Running Shoe from Amazon.com after first trying them on, of all places, at Disney's Epcot Norway pavilion where these shoes are sold in the gift shop. These are, without a doubt, the best shoes I've ever owned in my life; that is, not just the best running, or athletic, or all around, or everyday shoes, but the very best shoes of any kind that I've ever owned. But be careful about size. I wear size 8.5 in New Balance and Nike, but in these Helly Hansen shoes, my size is 7.5. My son wears size 9.5, but in Helly Hansen he wears size 9. I was concerned that they would be too warm in the summer months because they are waterproof, but they have been very comfortable throughout this summer. At first, they are very stiff, but after about a week, they become comfortable and now, after six months, they are like comfortably tight fitting moccasins. When they become dirty, I use a little water and a brush and they look new again. In my opinion, these are great shoes.
