great shoe

I wear Adidas so I knew to order about a size larger than I wear in other running shoes. They have good arch support, which might be uncomfortable for people with flat feet. They are very light and provide good heel support. No complaints. Great shoe!

I am 240 and running is a literal uphill battle, I am glad that brooks has taken into consideration people who are fat and trying to get skinny always start out big

I stay in the trance

I put In 15 miles on average every week. I have ran 3 marathons so far. the 2nd in brooks trance 9's and the 3rd in trance 10's. the trance 12 fit my foot ever so slightly bigger. But somehow the shoe has shaped my foot so it's no longer a problem. Amazing ride in the shoes. Lightweight feel. Your foot feels free and cushioned. Has a really slick look to them too. I look forward to my next marathon in these. The shoes matter. Get the best. Brooks.

I hate running/Now I want to run

I am 6'3" 245 in the gym 7 days a week, i would rather deadlift 500lbs for reps than run a mile, I dont like to run it is hard on my joints. However I decided I wanted to drop some bodyfat% and the treadmill is my weapon of choice to do so. All my friends run miles upon miles and im the big guy, they run in Brooks so i chose to buy these Trance 12s because they offer support and cushioning, I also purchased a pair of Nike LunarEclipses'. I am a hardcore nike sneakerhead I collect them, but these Brooks are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned hands down. They feel as if they propel me into my stride step after step and I dont feel my weight hammering down on my shins and ankles, its crazy. I desire to run because of these shoes. I will forever buy brooks running shoes. Sidenote on size, in a Nike I wear a 12, in a New Balance I wear a 13 and in these I bought an 11.5 and it fits me perfectly. This shoe is so supportive and comfortable I plan on purchasing a backup pair. Style wise, well they look like a running shoe, the web splatter on the sole is cool looking though. I have seen the new Glycerins and they are more stylish, but honestly you're not buying Brooks to look cool, you're buying them to help you push through the miles comfortably and they absolutely do that. Good luck and keep on pushin'.Update 8/05/13: Bought a 2nd pair of these in the sulphur, neon yellow and black. I cant say enough about these brooks trance 12s. Im a big guy I now run 4 miles every other day because of these shoes and I couldnt be happier. Yes, they are expensive but there is a reason. They are the most comfortable supportive shoes Ive ever owned. If you're considering these, dont hesistate they are beyond worth it.Update 9/09/13: Still running, in fact they gave me the confidence to run my first 5k. Im now 235 and I enjoy running more and more because of my brooks. I have purchased a 3rd pair of brooks now. So thats 3 pairs of brooks in 4 months, I cant say enough about this companies product. They obviously know running. Ive gone from a shin pounding over pronating heel striker to a midfoot striker that likes to go fast all due to my brooks. Their shoes have helped me learn my stride/gait and go with it. Just Buy Them!

Disappointed

I wore these only three times and the heel tore. I hadn't even run in them yet. I went for a few 4 mile walks, just to break them in before running with them. The heel broke on the outside of the sneaker underneath the "gel bubble", in between where the white part of the heel meets the black part of the sole. These white and black parts are separate, unlike some other sneakers where the entire sole is all one piece; the two parts are only held together by some glue.These seemed like they would be a nice, lightweight upgrade from my old running shoes too. For $80 I would have liked something sturdy enough to handle WALKING 12 miles. A further inspection of the shoe made me see that the "lightweight material" is just code for "cheap and flimsy". Although the sneaker is still functional, I'll have to replace the pair in the next couple of months.Expected much better from Asics.

Asics Mens Gel Nimbus 9

These are great shoes. I am a 45 year old male in moderate to good health and these shoes helped me train for and compete in a half iron-man. I typically am a back of the pack finisher, but my goal is to have a better finish in this year's triathlon.The shoes provide great support, are light, and have performed well even in rainy weather.

Confident Trail Hiking

I have a pair of Adidas Terrex XCR Goretex/Leather shoes that I love. Sadly, I wore the soles off the bottom of them - well to the point they were failing me on the trail. I was looking for a shoe with similar qualities (low cut but stable, waterproof, sure footed and not too heavy). The Terrex Fast R hits these categories though not as competently without modification. Namely, I found the drawstring laces too finicky and I never felt really secure no matter how hard I tugged on those pesky things. These shoes aren't cheap so it's not lightly that I decided to cut these things out, but I was quite happy with the other shoe characteristics, so I gave it a go. Simple enough, I cut the drawstrings and replaced them with nylon athletic laces. That made a big difference to the feel of the shoe - adding stability and having an all-around better fit to my foot - which is slightly narrow.Overall, very pleased with the shoes. They have served me well on both intermediate local hikes and longer ones like Old Rag Mountain. If these shoes last as long as my last pair (5 years or so of moderate to difficult day hikes), the price will be worth it.Pros:LooksLow-cut but stableWaterproof, but breathableComfortable in cool to warm weatherExcellent traction - truly spectacular while rock scramblingMid-weightSizing was accurateCons:Drawstrings were finickyFit was not best with drawstringsInitial Cost

Fantastic shoes for Winter/wet runs

After trying several of the newer varieties of Vib Five Fingers hoping to keep my feet dry on wet muddy trails, and I really have liked my Five Fingers over the years, I gave these Merrell Embark Glove GTX (Goretex) shoes a try. New snow on the ground, wet and very muddy, and I am so impressed and very, very pleased with these shoes. They do not rub the back of my feet, or anywhere else for that matter with wool socks, and are very warm and dry. My last run included Gaiters and even in deeper water crossings where I thought for sure my feet would get wet...dryness prevailed. Several of other things that I really love about these shoes are that you naturally stay on the front part of your feet when on the run so the 'barefoot' experience is maintained quite well while the added protection in the toe box has these now my first choice n shoes for my mountain runs on the AT and Catoctin NP. I've found them to be very sure footed in snow/ice packed conditions. Frankly, these will be my first choice in foot wear for all sorts of conditions and even for just walking around on rainy days. Well made they appear to be durable. One of the piss-offs I've had with my Vibrams have been quality, especially where sole meets uppers around the inside step of the big toe. No such problems with these shoes! They are tough runners and clean up in a jiff.

great outdoor running shoes

I used this shoes in snow and rain and they work perfectly.it is my first experience with barefoot running shoes so my calf muscles really suffer if I don't take it eazy.But after only two month I can run up to four miles with this shoes, and by next winter I am planning on using only the Merrell for my wet runs.

Great shoes

I now have two extra pairs of these shoes. They are so good I wanted to have the same shoes for years to come, as shoe style/manufacturing changes over time. I use two black pairs (the ones with the three vlecro straps) with my business suits for professional work weekdays where I have to do a lot of walking and one sporty model for almost everything else. They are so much better than Nike. The Aetrex shoes support my feet, do not cramp my toes (size 13 wide), wear very well and the lining does weaar out quickly, as other brands can.
